    Music For Life

I am trying on a concept: "Music for Life". Music has been an integral part of my life since birth. My father sang to me. My mother hummed around the house. Our family entertainment was sing-a-longs after dinner & holiday events. High School & friend activities were centered on music. Good emotions & heartbreak were reiterated in the music I listened to. I wrote music to spill my heart out. I shared my music for my own emotional comfort and that became something touching for someone else. Music earmarked life's milestones. I comforted my child with music. I supported my child's interest in music. My child re-interested me in performing music. I now comfort the elderly and ill with music.

I still write music. My daughter describes it as “Soulfully Nostalgic Music with a Modern Flair”.  Not sure exactly what she meant by this, but it sounds pretty good.  Well okay – some of my favorite music to listen to and to perform is Nostalgic.  My main commercial repertoire spans from 1920s through 1970s.  I create theme sets like “Famous Songs by Famous Crooners” for fun presentations in retirement centers.  I listen to new music and I enjoy it.  But what happened to the melody?  What happened to beautiful sweet vocal renditions?  The new music I write has a more contemporary feel – but I am still holding to the feeling “it has to have a melody & I have to understand the words”.  I suppose that would make it “Soulfully Nostalgic Music with a Modern Flair”.

On my 55th birthday, I went into the studio & put my money where my mouth is.  I recorded 15 of my own songs in a compilation called “Renewed”.  The name made sense.  I “Renewed” some older songs I’d written years ago by updating my presentation and I wrote some new songs to complement.  My new theme song is Never Too Late: “Never too old to rock and roll!  And it’s never, never ever too late for love,” I sing.  That does kind of follow my own life recently.  So, coming back to music – I am hopeful to retire from my day job soon so I can really focus on what I love.  “Music for Life!”  Music for my life and for your life and to sustain life!

I was wondering who would enjoy this music that I want to share.  I am thinking it could be other Baby Boomers (like me), but maybe there are others younger & older who’d appreciate it too.  I need to make a running start somewhere!  Now I also have grandchildren & I find myself singing to them/for them.  I have begun to record some songs I wrote when they turned 3 & some new material is in the works, child-friendly and grandparent friendly!  (My alter ego is “Grandma Paula”.)

Please visit my website & listen to some of my music at http://www.pcsnydermusic.com/music.html - find links on this page to lyrics & song clips from “Renewed”.  I would love to hear your comments & suggestions.  (Just about my whole life history is presented in the web pages if you choose to explore.)  I am trying to build my fan list all over the country (next – the world!).  Sign up for e-mail newsletters if you so desire.  If visiting the Raleigh NC area, check out my calendar and come out to a performance.  Having a party or special event?  I am open to performing for anniversaries, birthdays, later-life weddings, reunions or whatever.  (I might be coerced to travel…..)  “Never Too Late” for “Music for Life”?  Something to think about!

    How To Benefit From Music

In an effort to stay fit and healthy, people nowadays are becoming more and more conscious of their food and diet. They are also doing more exercise to maintain their health and. The benefits of the healthy food and exercise are well known. However, there is one more fact that people are not aware of. It is the positive impact of music on health. Young or old, music is an effective means of managing stress and hence can be an important and effective tool to facilitate healthy existence. Music can play an important role throughout our lives. Music is based on sound waves that lie between our voice and the meditative brain wavelengths and as a result it can be a medium that can connect us with our higher conscious thereby relieving us of anxiety and tension. Educationists have long known the benefits of music. The ability to play a musical instrument and make music improves our analytical abilities. In the process of learning music, the reading of musical notes and musical notations works towards stimulating the processes linked with solving mathematical and analytical problems and do extremely well in sciences. The minds of young people are filled with eternal hope, which reflects in their musical creations. This can be clearly seen while watching them learn to play musical instruments and when they are performing. The combination of young minds and music evokes joy and hope. Unlike the people who have earned gray hair, the music of young people serves as a reminder to the fact that nothing is impossible. There have been a lot of studies conducted on the influence of music. In the elderly people, music has been shown to not only reduce tension and anxiety but also helps reduce the feeling of isolation and solitude. And a surprising revelation of this study was that the subjects enrolled for this study showed an increased production of human growth hormone, which has a positive effect on the side effects of aging like wrinkling, osteoporosis, general aches and pains and even sexual function. Health practitioners can draw an important inference from this study. It shows that group activity and interaction with others is important for staying healthy and having a better standard of living. It proves the long held belief that music is a means to link with our higher selves and thereby help us lead a healthy life that can be enjoyed to the fullest.
